Maria's Sunnyside Cafe - Maria Guerrero's Story
Originally, "Sunnyside Cafe" was expanded from a Mexican bakery, taking its name from the surrounding neighborhood where the sun rose and shone on "our side" of Adrian. The area of Adrian where many Mexican families from Texas initially settled in the 1940's and 1950's when booming local factories provided many with a stable future. In January 2013, Maria saw her dream become reality when she purchased the restaurant from her grandparents, updating it to "Maria's Sunnyside Cafe" and vowing to continue the family pride in welcoming new generations to experience "The Side" with all its distinctive flavors, smiles, and homespun warmth. In June 1974, Mike and Mary Guerrero purchased Sunnyside Cafe, running it with family and community memebers for 39 years. Generations were born into the family and continued the tradition of great food, resaonable prices and family-friendly atmosphere. Maria grew up at Sunnyside Cafe - In fact, she learned to count using pennies from the register! Her dream from childhood was to someday carry on the family tradition. In additoin to working at the orginal resturant, she established her own successful catering service and also works many local fairs and even venues.
